Mamata Banerjee: Supreme Court order is our ethical triumph

Kolkata, Feb 5 The Supreme Court's direction that no coercive steps, including capture of Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar, will occur over the span of examination is "our ethical triumph", West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Tuesday

The Supreme Court Tuesday coordinated Kumar to make himself accessible before the CBI and "steadfastly" participate with the organization in examination of cases emerging out of the Saradha chit subsidize trick test

The court also said no coercive steps, including the capture of the Kolkata Police chief, will take place during the course of investigation

Banerjee is on a sit-in against the CBI's endeavor to scrutinize the Kolkata Police boss regarding chit finance tricks. Her challenge entered the third day on Tuesday

The Supreme Court's order is a victory of the common man, democracy and the Constitution, Banerjee told reporters at the dharna venue in central Kolkata

"There must be some story behind this. It's not possible for anyone to set out to talk against (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) Modi. Our's is a mass fomentation and we are going to battle it unitedly," the chief minister said

Banerjee sat on a "Save India" dharna before Metro Cinema in the heart of Kolkata on Sunday night demanding that the most recent CBI action was tantamount to stifling the spirit of "Constitution and federalism" in the nation

"We generally regard the law and feel that things should keep running according to the law. But, if that somebody attempts to destroy the pillars on which democracy stands, government remains, then there would be nothing left of the democratic process that we are so proud of

"We truly welcome the Supreme Court decision. It is totally right. Our case is very strong. We never said we won't participate. This is political vendetta," Banerjee said.

Several opposition leaders, including Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, DMK's Kanimozhi, RJD's Tejaswhi Yadav, have supported Banerjee's challenge.
