Mayawati asks BJP leaders, media to not distort oral perception of SC

Lucknow, Feb 9 A day after the Supreme Court said BSP chief Mayawati may need to repay people in general cash spent on raising her statues, she asked BJP leaders and the media not to "distort" the observation of the court.

The final hearing in the case against the previous UP chief minister is on April 2.

"Humble request to the media kindly don't twist oral perception of the Honorable court. Beyond any doubt to get equity in this issue too. Media and BJP leaders please stop kite flying," she said in a tweet.

Mayawati said marvellous memorials and parks worked to honour "ignored" gurus and sants born in Dalit and OBC people group are a new grand identity and tourist attractions in the state.

The Bahujan Samaj Party supremo said the gathering's perspective will be set placed before the court.

On Friday, the apex court had stated, "We are of the conditional view that Mayawati needs to store general society cash spent on her statues and gathering image to the state exchequer."

The remarks were made by the court which was hearing a request recorded in 2009 by a promoter who had asserted that several crores of rupees were used from the state budget for 2008-09 and 2009-10, when Mayawati was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, for slowing down her statues and BSP's symbol at different places.

It was fought that open cash can't be used for making own statues and for proliferating the political party.

Talking on the issue, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, who in the past has lashed out at Mayawati for getting her statues raised with the state's cash, Friday went delicate on his alliance partner.

"I don't have full information about this. The court may have mentioned some objective facts. BSP's lawyers will put their side in the court," he told reporters.

The SP and the BSP as of late reported their partnership for Uttar Pradesh in the coming Lok Sabha elections, setting aside their once bitter rivalry.
