P Chidambaram shows up before ED in money laundering probe

New Delhi, Feb 8 Former Finance minister P Chidambaram showed up before the Enforcement Directorate on Friday regarding an money laundering probe related with INX Media.

The Congress chief, who was summoned to record his announcement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), touched base at the's office in central Delhi at around 11 am.

Chidambaram has been grilled a number of times in this case in the past.

His son Karti was questioned by the agency in a similar case on Thursday for around six hours.

The ED connected Karti's advantages worth an expected Rs 54 crore, situated in India and abroad, for the situation a year ago.

The central probe agency registered the PMLA case based on a CBI FIR and had affirmed inconsistencies in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) leeway to INX Media for receiving abroad assets to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007, when P Chidambaram was the account serve.

It registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), what could be compared to a police FIR, against the blamed named in the CBI complaint, including Karti, INX Media and its directors -- Peter and Indrani Mukerjea.

Karti was captured on February 28 a year ago by the CBI, the other focal office exploring the case, for purportedly taking cash to encourage the FIPB leeway to INX Media in 2007. He was granted bail subsequently.

The agency has alleged that Karti gotten cash from INX Media, using his impact to manipulate a tax probe against it fin a case of violation of FIPB conditions to receive investments from Mauritius.
