Election Commission "swayed" by PM Modi, alleges NCP

Mumbai, May 7 The NCP on Tuesday claimed that the Election Commission (EC) is "swayed" by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

NCP national representative Nawab Malik made the comment after the Supreme Court rejected the request of 21 opposition parties looking for a review of its April 8 request guiding the EC to build arbitrary coordinating of VVPAT slips with EVMs to five polling booths for every Assembly segment.

Malik alleged that the EC did not find a way out despite there being a probability of votes polled through the electronic voting machines (EVMs) and the voter-checked paper review trail (VVPAT) slips not tallying.

The NCP leader also expressed possibility of rigging on the day poll results would be declared (May 23) due to the same reason.

"The NCP is trying to guarantee people repose faith in the democracy. But the Election Commission is being swayed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Malik said.
