Chennai, May 5 Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram Sunday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his comments on Rajiv Gandhi, saying it showed his "desperation" and "fear of defeat".
In a series of tweets, the previous Union Finance Minister thought about whether any religion endorsed talking sick of the dead.
Multi day after Modi took a correspond at previous Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at his gathering rally at Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, Chidambaram stated, "The PM's comments on previous PM Rajiv Gandhi demonstrate the degree of his edginess and dread of thrashing."
Quoting a Latin saying 'De mortuis nihil nisi bonum' which signified "Of the dead, talking only the great," Chidambaram solicited: Has the PM known about this ancient wisdom?
"Does any religion allow anybody to speak ill of the dead?" he asked.
Accusing the Congress and its president Rahul Gandhi of attempting to tarnish his image over the Rafale issue, Modi had stated,
"Your dad was named 'Mr Clean' by his courtiers, but his life finished as 'Bhrastachari number 1' (degenerate number 1)".
He asserted the Congress boss had conceded in a meeting that his solitary point is to discolor the picture of Modi.
"By disparaging, you can't break up the 50-long year of Modi's tapasya (struggle) in dust," the prime minister had said at Pratapgarh rally.
"By tarnishing my image and by making me small, these people want to make an unstable and a weak government in the country," he had said.
