Army Chief Bipin Rawat: Some reports on Kashmir could be motivated

New Delhi, June 27 Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat on Wednesday said very little consideration must be given to the ongoing United Nations report about Kashmir, claiming that some of the reports are "motivated."

"I don't think it is important for us to speak on this (UN report). The Indian Army's human rights record is above board, and people of India, Army faculty and nations worldwide know truth. We should not pay much notice to this, a portion of these reports are motivated," he told media here.

Not long ago, the United Nations Human Rights Office in its 49-page report required a test into asserted human rights violations in Kashmir by both India and Pakistan.

This report has been met with feedback from politicos and defense experts alike.

Following the arrival of the report, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it was misdirecting and mischievous.

"The report damages India's power and regional trustworthiness. The whole state of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. Pakistan is in the illicit and persuasive control of a piece of the Indian state through animosity. We have over and again called upon Pakistan to clear the possessed regions. The inaccurate portrayal of Indian domain in the report is evil, misdirecting and inadmissible. There are no substances, for example, "Azad Jammu and Kashmir" and "Gilgit-Baltistan," the MEA said in an announcement.

"It is disturbing that those behind this report have portrayed globally assigned and UN-prohibited terrorist entities as "equipped gatherings" and psychological militants as "pioneers". This undermines the UN-drove accord on zero resistance to terrorism," it further noted.
