Election Commission bans Modi biopic during election period

New Delhi, Apr 10 The Election Commission Wednesday banned the screening of the biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid survey period, saying any such film that subserves reason for any political substance or individual ought not be shown in the electronic media.

The EC order came a day before the movie was to be released.

The first phase of Lok Sabha elections begins Thursday.

The Supreme Court Tuesday rejected a petition filed by a Congress activist looking for remain on the arrival of the biopic and said the Election Commission would be a "suitable" spot to look for the redressal.

The peak court said it was not engaging the petition for the stay on the release of the film as it seemed to be "premature" since the movie is yet to be certified by the Censor Board.

It said regardless of whether the film is released on April 11, as guaranteed by the Congress activist, it will be appropriate for him to look for a redressal from the Election Commission.

The plea had looked for delay of the biopic's release till the finishing of the coming Lok Sabha polls, alleging that it was designed to "manipulate, influence and impress viewers and voters"
