Mumbai, Apr 2 Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday said his party and the BJP are bound by Hindutva and the two chose to go into a pre-poll alliance after overcoming differences that soured their ties in the past.
In a meeting to Sena MP Sanjay Raut in party mouthpiece 'Saamana', Thackeray said he consented to the alliance after BJP president Amit Shah came to him twice to sort out the issues.
The Sena, which has often been critical of the BJP, its leadership and policies of the NDA government, went into a seat-sharing pact with the ruling party as of late. The BJP and Sena consented to challenge 25 and 23 seats, individually, in Maharashtra which has 48 Lok Sabha constituencies.
"...You ask me for what good reason did we consent to an alliance again.
The entire world is an observer. BJP president Amit Shah came to me not once, but twice. Also, when the coalition was outlined, we set forth the problems of people. Indeed, even the chief minister was available when this happened," Thackeray said.
Shah needed the sourness between both the parties to end, he stated, adding he also agreed to the BJP chief's views.
To another query, Thackeray said over the span of dialogs, the issues that caused the harshness between the two saffron parties were "resolved".
"Like previously, Hindutva is the string that ties the BJP and the Sena together," he declared.
He also hit out at the opposition parties, saying if they come to power, they would "quarrel" for the prime minister's post as they lack a leader to bind them together.
The way the opposition parties have met up now in front of the Lok Sabha polls, they had made a comparable move after the Emergency - since there was enormous resentment among individuals - and shaped the Janata government which went on for 22 months, he noted.
"Then they at least had a face in Jayaprakash Narayan.
Presently, there is no face to tie the opposition in the nation.
If the opposition comes to control, there will be quarrelLing among them for the prime minister's post," he asserted.
"We (Sena and BJP) have Hindutva as a common thread.
Hindutva is nationalism," said Thackeray, whose party is an ally of the BJP at the Centre and in Maharashtra.
To a query on BJP veteran L K Advani, Thackeray said during the last five-ten years of his dad late Bal Thackeray's life, the more youthful age assumed control over the Sena and the patriarch guided them, however interceded and talked just when it was necessary.
"Change is a characteristic procedure. In any case, it doesn't mean you overlook them subsequent to influencing them to resign. You must be perpetually appreciative to them. Since, the Sena supremo, Atalji, Advaniji sowed the seeds in an incredibly troublesome condition. They took a chance with their lives in spreading Hindutva," he said.
Inquired as to whether he remained by his before explanation that the Sena decayed in 25 years of partnership with the BJP, Thackeray said his dad broadly headed out crosswise over Maharashtra to spread his gathering.
"However, we became inattentive after the partnership (with BJP). This carelessness of regard is no more there. Spreading of one's ideology is not a crime," he said.
"Would it be advisable for me to keep the Sena limited to the seats which we got as a component of the partnership equation? Would it be a good idea for us to not take our gathering to different places also? Since Sena isn't a gathering however a belief system," the 58-year-old leader said.
Asked if he had also become a "chowkidar" after tie-up with the BJP, Thackeray said he was only a typical man.
"I am a Shiv Sainik. I don't should be independently called a chowkidar. A fighter is a soldier who safeguards the common man and battles for their rights. I don't have to independently turn into a chowkidar," he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi as of late included "chowkidar" to his Twitter handle profile and asked people take the #MainBhiChowkidar pledge against corruption. A few BJP leaders and ministers later gone with the same pattern.
Asked if the Sena will show signs of improvement share in portfolio allocation after the Lok Sabha polls, Thackeray said keeping up relations was the responsibility of both the alliance accomplices.
But, the first priority was to win the elections and the opposition, however weak, cannot be ignored, he added.
On the leadership of Congress president Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Thackeray said he doesn't have personal enmity against anybody.
"Since they are both younger to me, I see them as children. Both these kids are attempting to discover a stability in the present environment. We will know about their success and failure later. However, I don't see a particular state of his (Rahul Gandhi's) authority," he said.
