Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif barely survives Panamagate jolt

Islamabad, Apr 20 Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today barely survived being disqualified after a 3-2 split choice by a Supreme Court bench which requested to set up a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) inside seven days to test the charges of illegal tax avoidance against his family.

The court likewise requested Sharif and his two children - Hasan and Hussain - to show up before the JIT, which would comprise of officials from the Federal Investigation Agency, the National Accountability Bureau, the Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and the Military Intelligence (MI).

The JIT will show its report before the bench after every two weeks.

The five-judge bench containing Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan issued the historic point judgment 57 days in the wake of closing the hearing.

The case was propelled on November 3 and the court held 35 hearings before closing the procedures on February 23.

The case is about affirmed illegal money laundering by Sharif in 1990s when he twice filled in as Prime Minister to purchase assets in London.

The advantages surfaced when Panama papers a year ago demonstrated that they were overseen through seaward organizations possessed by Sharif's children.

The case in the Supreme Court depended on a few indistinguishable petitions by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and others about alleged illegal assets of the Prime Minister Sharif's family in London.

Sharif's supporters hailed the choices as a a victory of justice.
