Lok Sabha proceedings disturbed as opposition protests proceed

New Delhi, Dec 28 Proceedings of the Lok Sabha were disturbed on Friday because of persistent challenges and sloganeering by opposition on different issues, including a probe into the Rafale aircraft deal.

When the House met at 11 AM, MPs having a place with the Congress, AIADMK, TDP and Left parties went to the Well and shouted slogans in support of their demands.

While the Congress has been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) test into the Rafale jet deal, those from the AIADMK protested against the construction of a dam across Cauvery River.

TDP members sought special status for Andhra Pradesh while Left MPs raised the demand for bringing a Bill to guarantee booking for ladies in governing body.

As in excess of 30 members from different parties continued to shout slogans and displayed placards while remaining in the Well, Mahajan deferred the House till twelve.

Two inquiries were taken up during the Question Hour, which continued for around 20 minutes.
