Krishnamurthy Subramanian selected as Chief Economic Advisor

New Delhi, Dec 7 Krishnamurthy Subramanian, a top-ranking IIT-IIM former student, has been appointed as the new Chief Economic Advisor for a time of 3 years.

Subramanian is a currently serving as Associate Professor of Finance and Executive Director for the Centre for Analytical Finance at the Indian School of Business. He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

The government on June 30 welcomed applications for the arrangement of CEA on assignment premise after Arvind Subramanian quit the workplace in front of fulfillment of his term.

The finance ministry had appointed a search committee headed by former Reserve Bank of India representative Bimal Jalan to shortlist candidates for the post. Economic affairs secretary Subhash C Garg and B P Sharma, secretary, department of personnel training are also members of the selection panel.

Arvind Subramanian was appointed as CEA on October 16, 2014, for a 3-year term and was given an augmentation a year ago. His official contract was till May 2019.
