A R Rahman: Hockey Men's World Cup anthem a tribute to India

Mumbai, Dec 6 A R Rahman isn't new to anthems but when he was approached to create a song for Hockey Men's World Cup, he needed the idea of the nation and culture to come across.

'Jai Hind India', written by Gulzar and featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara, is a tribute to India, the double Oscar-winner said at the launch of the song.

"The video and the song has to go beyond hockey. When people watch something they watch it for some things. When you accomplish something for games, we believed we ought to incorporate culture moreover. The tune is a tribute to India," Rahman told reporters here.

He said having done songs of devotion for movies like "Lagaan", '127 Hours" and "Million Dollar Arm", he had an idea about the world he wanted to create through his music.

"Hockey is a national game and I wanted to give my heart to it," he said.
