Rahul Gandhi, top Congress leaders mourn Kishanganj MP's death

New Delhi, Dec 7 Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday mourned the death of party MP and minister Maulana Asrarul Haq Qasmi, who died of a heart attack at his village home in Bihar's Kishanganj area.

A previous state leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hindi and member from the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Qasmi had won the Kishanganj situate without precedent for 2009 Lok Sabha surveys and proceeded to hold the seat five years after the fact. He was 76.

"Saddened to hear about the demise of Congress party's MP from Kishanganj Maulana Asrarul Haq," Gandhi said on Twitter.

He expressed his deepest condolences to Haq's family.

Different Congress pioneers joined Gandhi in grieving the demise of the pioneer.

Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said the nation has lost an educated leader. Qasmi dependably upheld and battled to preserve secular values, he added.

"I am deeply saddened by the demise of Mohammad Asrarul Haque, a senior Congressman and a popular leader from Kishanganj, Bihar, from where he was chosen as Lok Sabha part twice. He was instrumental in setting up Aligarh Muslim University in his voting public," said Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Congress' main representative Randeep Surjewal also expressed his sympathies on the passing away of Qasmi.

"My considerations and petitions are with his family, companions and adherents and to the people of Kishanganj and past," he said.
