Girish Karnad to receive Tata Lit Lifetime Achievement Award

Mumbai, Oct 31 Veteran actor and writer Girish Karnad is good to go to be regarded by Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award 2017.

The award will be displayed to Karnad, 79, at the writing celebration's yearly honors service which will be hung on November 19 at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Nariman Point here.

The veteran actor said it is a respect for him to get the honor as a writer.

"... What makes theater such a multifaceted world, a febrile system of human connections woven in words, and this is the reason when, toward its finish each of the, one is informed that one has succeeded, it is such a thrilling knowledge.

"This is the reason when the Tata Literature Live! respects me as a dramatist, I feel wrapped by the glow coming in wave after wave - from crosswise over dialects, societies, and even from former ages - saying to me, 'Well done!' What more might one be able to need? This is the minute a dramatist lives for," Karnad said in a statement.

His widely praised plays in the period of 1960s, for example, 'Yayati' (1961), the authentic 'Tughlaq' (1964), and his three fundamental works 'Hayavadana' (1971), 'Naga-mandala' (1988) and 'Taledanda' (1990) have earned worldwide acclaim.

Karnad is likewise a beneficiary of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan grants.

Anil Dharker, founder-director of Literature Live!, said the organisation is excited to respect the veteran theater artiste.

"His work, that marked the coming of present day Indian playwriting in the '60s has altogether helped shape and improve the Indian craftsmanship and writing universe. We are looking forward to having him with us at the festival," he said.

Harish Bhat, mark overseer, Tata Sons called Karnad "a goliath of our age, with noteworthy and persuasive commitments as dramatist, essayist, performing artist and chief".

Past beneficiaries of the Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award incorporate amazing essayists Amitav Ghosh (2016), Kiran Nagarkar (2015), MT Vasudevan Nair (2014), Khushwant Singh (2013), VS Naipaul (2012) and Mahashweta Devi (2011).

The festival run from November 16-19.
