Congress requests move back of GST on household LPG

New Delhi, Jul 4 The Congress today requested that the five per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) collected on domestic LPG cylinder be removed as it was burdening the poor.

"The price of residential LPG cylinder has gone up by Rs 32 in parts of the nation after the GST became effective. This is affecting common people, the poor especially. We request that the GST on residential LPG barrel be evacuated instantly," senior AICC spokesperson Ajay Maken told reporters here.

LPG has been placed in the five for each penny GST section. Prior a two to four per cent VAT was imposed on LPG in a some states.

Maken accused the government for not passing on the advantages of drop in global raw petroleum costs to people of the nation.

"The government is making profits to the tune of Rs 3 lakh crore consistently by not slashing costs of fuel here. From one perspective, it is making benefits and on the other, it is troubling the poor by forcing GST on the LPG barrel," Maken included.

He guaranteed sustenance and drinks, head protectors, hair oil, tooth paste, tea, coffee, butter, curd, cement and mineral water are a portion of the things costs of which have shot up, despite the government's assurance that their rates will drop once the GST is in force.

Maken likewise depicted the GST as 'Gayi Savings Tumhari' (your reserve funds have vanished).

The GST came into force on July 1.
