New Delhi, Jul 4 Former chief Sunil Gavaskar feels his ex-partner Ravi Shastri is the favourite to end up plainly the head coach of the Indian cricket group.
Shastri has turned into the leader for the prominent occupation after he formally submitted his application to the BCCI.
"Ravi really was the one (amid his residency as Team Director) the turnaround really begun for the Indian cricket group in 2014," Gavaskar told NDTV.
"After India lost in England, the BCCI requesting that he come in as a group director...suddenly there was an adjustment in the team's fortunes over a period of time. Now that he's connected, he's likely the man who will land the position," Gavaskar told NDTV.
Shastri, who filled in as Indian team director from August 2014 to June 2016, shares a sound compatibility with the players including captain Virat Kohli.
Amid his residency, India won restricted overs away arrangement against England in 2014, achieved the semi-finals of the World Cup and World T20 (2015 and 2016 respectively), won away Test arrangement against Sri Lanka, home series against South Africa and T20 away series against Australia.
The other people who have applied for the head coach role are Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Venkatesh Prasad, Richard Pybus, Dodda Ganesh, Lalchand Rajput and Phil Simmons.
