Uma Bharti: UP, MP governments should work out settlement of water sharing

New Delhi, Jul 20 The governments of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh should work out a water-sharing consent to take the Ken-Betwa River Link Project (KBLP) forward, Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti said today.

Bharti said in Lok Sabha the KBLP will water a range of 6,35,661 hactres every year in three districts of Madhya Pradesh and four areas of Uttar Pradesh.

What's more, the project will give 49 million cubic meters of water for enroute drinking water supply to a populace of 13.42 lakh in UP and MP. The venture will likewise produce 78 MW control, she said amid Question Hour.

The status of the project was checked on at an abnormal state meeting on July 4 with top authorities of both the state governments where the MP government suggested that the Kotha blast, Bina complex and Lower Orr Dam be incorporated into the venture.

While the Lower Orr extend is under examination of the Central Water Commission, the Detailed Project Report of Bina Complex is under evaluation of the CWC and the DPR of Kotha flood has been submitted to the CWC.

"This would likewise influence the initial allocation of water between the two states according to the 2005 understanding. It was therefore chosen that both the state governments should work out a concession to common water sharing to take KBLP forward.

"The usage of KBLP would be taken up once the two states have achieved a concurrence on water sharing," she said.

Bharti said the Centre was prepared to take up comparable waterway connecting ventures in different parts of the nation.
