United Nations, Sep 27 India is willing to take the lead in combating climate change as it poses significant developmental challenges, particularly to developing nations, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has told a high-level UN meeting on the issue.
India is the 6th biggest maker of renewable energy, and fifth biggest maker of solar energy in the world, Swaraj said at the high level meeting on climate change convened by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres amid the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly on Wednesday.
As far as it matters for its to battle climate change, it has set an objective of creating 175 Giga Watts of solar and wind energy by 2022, Swaraj said.
India has introduced more than 300 million LED globules sparing USD 2 billion and 4 GW of power. She also refered to the case of the Kochi airport in Kerala which is the first solar-powered airport in the world.
"India will make lead in atmosphere move. Our pledge to battle environmental change is established in our ethos, which considers Earth as Mother," Swaraj said.
She told the UN meeting that India will diminish the discharge force of its GDP by 25 for every penny more than 2005 levels by 2020, and facilitate by 33-35 percent by 2030.
"India is a firm believer to multilateralism," she stated, including that the International Solar Alliance (ISA) propelled with France, has been now marked by 68 nations. The partnership expects to activate innovation and funds to bring down unit costs.
Swaraj said India look forward Guterres' visit one week from now to the nation at the first meeting of the General Assembly of the ISA.
"Climate change poses significant developmental challenges, particularly to create nations.
