New Delhi, Sep 28 Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday said that he is planning to give free Wifi at all 6,000 railway stations in the following 120 days if the private entities like Google successfully collaborate.
Talking at the launch of the project 'The Railways-Lifeline of the Nation' Goyal said that 711 railway stations as of now have free WiFi and his objective was to achieve the 6000 station check in the following four months.
"Google with railroads has given free WiFi in more than 400 stations, this shows how great joint efforts can be and how it tends to be used to serve the people.
"We should expand this to all 6000 stations so that local people in the vicinity of the stations, especially from poor people or marginalised sections of the general public can use this and enjoy the fruits of the country's development," he said.
He highlighted the need for partnership in making this possible and urged Google to partner with railways to give free WiFi in more stations.
"We have offered more than 5000 stations for public private association on Rail Sahayog site for WiFi...Maybe Google can take a portion of these stations up. I want to have WiFi associations in every one of the 6000 stations in the following 120 days in the spirit of partnership," he said.
