Government calls Aadhaar decision memorable, says Congress cuts a 'sorry figure'

New Delhi, Sep 26 Arun Jaitley said that while the Congress presented Aadhaar, it didn't recognize what to do with the scheme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government on Wednesday respected the decision on Aadhaar by the Supreme Court. Terming the decision as "historic", Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley pointed that the concept of Aadhaar has been accepted after a judicial review.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader hit out at the critics of Aadhaar, saying those criticising the unique identification scheme need to understand that they "can't resist technology". He included that the "mainstream should accept changes, one can understand the fringe being against Aadhaar”.

Jaitley also rejected the criticism by the Congress party, saying that the grand old party "cuts a very sorry figure here" as it presented the possibility of Aadhaar however "did not know what to do with it".

Referring to the benefits of Aadhaar for the government, the Union Finance Minister stated, ""We are sparing Rs 90,000 crore consistently by recognizing the recipients of the plan." Calling Aadhaar a device of good administration, Jaitley said that "Aadhaar will continue to serve poor people”.

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who was additionally part of the public interview, said that the Supreme Court decision "engages majority rule government". He included, "The Supreme Court decision is the judgment existing apart from everything else."

In the decision, the zenith court's five-judge Constitution seat, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, decided that Aadhaar was not compulsory for keeping money, cell phone administrations and admissions to instructive organizations. Aadhaar will, be that as it may, be required for host of government plans.

The top court struck down Section 57 of Aadhaar Act allowing private entities to profit Aadhaar data and ruled that Aadhaar verification information can't be put away for over a half year. The bench also struck down the national security exception under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act.
