New Delhi, Sep 29 Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday emphasised the importance of character building over literacy and called for 'wholesome'education in the country.
He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of "Conference on Academic Leadership on Education for Resurgence" composed by the HRD Ministry.
"Information and training are not limited to books. The motivation behind training is to empower adjusted development of each measurement of an individual, which isn't conceivable without advancement," Modi said.
"Ambedkar, Deen Dayal Upadhya and Ram Manohar Lohiya constantly stressed on character-working over proficiency. Swami Vivekananda worried on healthy instruction that makes us a human," he included.
The prime minister asserted that without innovation life would become a burden.
"Innovation is very important because without it, life seems like a burden. In our old colleges like Takshshila, Nalanda and Vikramashila, innovation was given emphasis along with knowledge.
"I insist that students should give knowledge in classrooms of college, university but they also add them to the aspirations of the nation," he said.
The meeting is being gone to by bad habit chancellors and chiefs of more than 350 advanced education institutions.
