Mumbai, Sep 17 Asserting his loyalty towards the Congress president, Mumbai Regional Congress Committee (MRCC) president Sanjay Nirupam on Monday said that just Rahul Gandhi would choose whether he was to be expelled or not.
Addressing the media here, Nirupam stated, "I am a Rahul Gandhi supporter and I have been appointed by him. He has ordered me to battle for the issues of the people of Mumbai, it is my duty to carry out that duty, and consistently day I am in the city to battle for Mumbaikars."
The former Congress MP further included, "I will continue doing so until the point that the day he considers fit to supplant me. That day I will appropriately acknowledge that choice, yet just he will choose till when I will fill in as Mumbai Congress president."
Nirupam's comments come in the backdrop of a meeting between senior MRCC leaders and Maharashtra Congress incharge Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday, wherein evidently an interest for Nirupam's expulsion as the MRCC president was made. The pioneers, expressed to have prescribed the name of previous Lok Sabha MP Milind Deora for the post.
It is learnt that the leaders collectively requested an adjustment in the MRCC authority at the most punctual for better arrangement for the up and coming Lok Sabha and the State assembly elections due next year.
The Mumbai Congress leaders were said to be upset with Nirupam's stance on crucial issues related with the party's everyday working as well as the strategy for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, including ticket distribution.
