Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale holds talks with Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi

Beijing, Feb 24 Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing on Friday amid continuing tensions in bilateral relations following a year ago's Doklam standoff.

The Indian Embassy, through a tweet, declared the visit of Gokhale, who was also the former Indian emissary to China, on Saturday.

"The foreign secretary is going by China to talk about the respective motivation, trade plans and visits for 2018," the Indian Embassy in Beijing said.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a statement late Friday night on Gokhale's discussions with Wang.

"We trust that the Indian side will handle with delicate issues wisely and work with China to advance the sound development of China-India relations," Wang stated, clearly alluding to a variety of touchy issues amongst India and China, incorporating the present improvements in the Maldives.

According to the press release, Gokhale said he was satisfied to visit China at the absolute starting point of his term.

A series of bilateral visits are expected in the number one spot up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi going by China in June for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held at Qingdao city, as indicated by the reports.
