Beijing, Mar 14 China on Thursday tried to guard its fourth technical hold at the UN Security Council to hinder the assignment of Pakistan-based JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist, saying it would help the gatherings worried to take part in more converses with locate an "lasting solution" acceptable to all.
The proposal to designate Azhar under the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council was moved by France, the UK and the US on February 27, days after a suicide plane of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) killed 40 CRPF troopers in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama, leading to a flare-up in tensions between India and Pakistan.
The Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee members had 10 working days to raise any objections to the proposal. Just before the due date finished, China put a "technical hold" on the proposal looking for "more opportunity to analyze" it.
The proposal was the fourth such bid at the UN over the most recent 10 years to list Azhar as a global terrorist.
Asked why China once again resorted to blocking the move, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang told a media briefing here that Beijing's choice is in accordance with the standards of the committee.
China "sincerely trusts that relevant move made by this panel will help relevant countries to engage in dialogue and meeting and counteract including increasingly confounded variables into provincial harmony and soundness," he said.
"As to the technical hold at the 1267 Committee our action is to ensure that the board of trustees will have enough time to think about the issue so the pertinent sides will possess energy for dialogue and consultation," Lu said.
"Just an answer that is worthy to all sides could in a general sense give an opportunity to an enduring answer for the issue. China is prepared to impart and arrange with all sides including India to appropriately deal with this issue," he said.
India on Wednesday communicated dissatisfaction not long after China put a specialized hang on assigning Azhar.
The External Affairs Ministry in New Delhi said India will keep on pursueing every single accessible road to guarantee that pioneers of dread gatherings engaged with terrible assaults on Indian natives are conveyed to equity.
"This has prevented action by the global network to assign the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a banned active terrorist organization which has guaranteed duty regarding the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14," the MEA said.
Without naming China, it said the UN's 1267 Sanctions Committee was not ready to go to a choice on the proposal for posting Azhar because of a part setting the proposition on hold.
To another inquiry on the Wuhan summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping a year ago to improve the bilateral relations, Lu stated, "Xi and Modi met four times.
Particularly the Wuhan Summit made great progress. China is full of sincerity and prepared to work with India to expand on the accord of our leaders for greater progress in the bilateral relations."
On the Kashmir issue, Lu said China's situation on it is clear and reliable.
"This is an issue that is left over among India and Pakistan. We trust that the two sides will engage in friendly dialogue consultation and solve this issue and other related issues," he said.
