Rahul Gandhi guarantees big-bang minimum income scheme; 20% families to get Rs 72K every year

New Delhi, Mar 25 In a big bang election promise, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday reported that 20 percent families having a place with the most unfortunate class will be given Rs 72,000 each yearly as least pay if his party comes to control.

Making the announcement at a press conference here, Gandhi said five crore families and 25 crore will directly profit by the plan.

"Final assault on poverty has started. We will wipe out destitution from the nation," he said

Gandhi said the Congress has studied the fiscal implications of the plan and consulted renowned economists and experts before finalising the scheme.

"It is an extremely powerful, ground-breaking and well-thought through idea. We have consulted many financial specialists on the plan," he said.

"People have suffered over the most recent five years and we are going to offer equity to them," he included.
