PM Narendra Modi urges celebrities to urge people to vote in large numbers

Former President Pranab Mukherjee, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, industrialists Ratan Tata and Anand Mahindra, sports identities like PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Sachin Tendulkar and Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan were conspicuous among those who found personal mention in tweets by the Prime Minister.

''A high turnout augurs well for our democratic fabric,'' the PM composed on his own Twitter handle.

In another tweet, the PM encouraged well known film identities, for example, Mohan Lal and Nagarjuna Akkineni to make mindfulness among the voters.

"Your performances have entertained millions over the years and you have also won many honors. I ask for you to make more prominent voter mindfulness and urge people to cast a ballot in extensive numbers," he said.

Besides making a series of tweets, the PM also composed a blog in which he portrayed ''voting'' as a "prime" duty of each citizen.

In his blog, the PM urged people to practice their franchise in the up and coming Lok Sabha election 2019, start from April 11.

"A vote connotes the eagerness to add to the advancement direction of the country. By casting a ballot, people connect themselves with the nation's fantasies and desires," the PM wrote in the blog.

In his blog, the PM reminded the voters, especially the young ones, that elections are round-the-corner and each one of the individuals who are qualified to cast a ballot must exercise this capacity to choose a steady and strong government.
