BJP considering to field more Muslim candidates in Bengal

Kolkata, Oct 30 The BJP in Bengal is thinking about to field "considerable" number of Muslim competitors in the Lok Sabha elections one year from now with an aim to make advances into Chief Minster Mamata Banerjee's strong support base among minorities, and corner a sizeable share of this numerically critical vote bank.

The saffron party's aim to make a shift in its political strategy in West Bengal gives off an impression of being a consequence of their reaping a decent number of seats in the local body election early this year by fielding Muslim applicants.

The BJP had fielded in excess of 850 competitors from the minority community in the poll to the three-level panchayats, with almost 50% of them winning the elections.

In the last Lok Sabha surveys, the BJP had handled just two minority competitors in the state, which has an aggregate of 42 seats.

In any case, since the last Lok Sabha polls in the state, Bengal politics has seen a change in perspective with the BJP developing as the primary challenger of the TMC by outmaneuvering the CPI(M) and the Congress.

State BJP president Dilip Ghosh told, the party will mean to field "impressive" number of Muslim candidates, given the way that the state has almost 30 percent Muslim populace.

"In spite of the fact that in our party, distributed on the basis of religion, but rather we are getting a few applications from individuals of the minority network, communicating their longing to challenge races on our gathering ticket," Ghosh said.

There is still time left to settle on the issue of hopefuls and tickets will be dispersed based on qualification, winnability and capacity of an individual, he said.

Ghosh's perspectives were resounded by gathering's Bengal Minority Morcha chief Ali Hossain, who felt Muslims are a central factor in the Bengal elections and the party can't bear to ignore them.

The ruling TMC, notwithstanding, marked down BJP's minority outreach plan and affirmed that they keep on having confidence in party chief Mamata Banerjee.

"The minorities have full confidence in us. The BJP's procedure is only a joke and the minorities are extremely very much aware of their aims," senior TMC leader Partha Chatterjee said.

The Congress and the CPI(M) also pooh-poohed the BJP's Muslim outreach plan saying it was only "shedding crocodile tears" in front of the Lok Sabha polls.

Ghosh guaranteed his party has extended its base in Bengal significantly and Muslims too are not out of its range.

"We are running the legislature at the Centre and in excess of 20 states, Muslims are living in peace and there are no issues. We put stock being developed for all," he said.

As indicated by state BJP sources, who did not wish to be named, with the end goal to make party president Amit Shah's objective of 22 Lok Sabha seats from Bengal a reality, it is a "need" for the gathering to contact the minorities as the network plays a main factor in something like 10-12 Lok Sabha seats of the state.

Floated by its execution in the last Panchayat polls, the West Bengal BJP has arranged its Lok Sabha outline, focusing on 26-28 parliamentary seats in the state.

The party by and by has two Lok Sabha seats - Asansol and Darjeeling - in the state.

The BJP's Bengal minority wing chief Ali Hossain said a definitive choice on the hopefuls' choice would be of the party.

"We won't pressurize the gathering by saying that it needs to field such huge numbers of Muslim hopefuls. Everything will rely upon different components including whether he or she can win the seat or not," Hossain told.

The BJP minority morcha, West Bengal unit had a week ago sorted out a two-day meeting to examine different issues relating to the Muslim community.

Various morcha leaders chose to proliferate issues running from triple talaq to the Assam NRC to counter the "false promulgation" against the party.
