Prime Minister Narendra Modi must explain to people the truth: CPI

New Delhi, Oct 24 The CPI Wednesday described the situation in the CBI as one similar to a "coup" that has shocked the country and demanded the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as head of the government, explain to the people reality.

Socialist Party of India's national secretary D Raja said there is likewise hypothesis that the goings-on in the chief analytical office has something to do with the Rafale scam and that the leader must clear up.

"What is going on in the CBI is like a coup that has stunned the whole country. The CBI has been plunged into such a crisis. It's credibility stands totally crushed. It is occurring under the nose of the prime minister.

"There is speculation that it has something to do with the Rafale trick. Individuals need to know reality. The leader being the leader of the legislature should disclose to the general population and the country," Raja said.

Top two officers of the CBI have been embroiled in a bitter battle with each blaming the other for corruption, with government asking both the officers - CBI Director Alok Verma and its extraordinary executive Rakesh Asthana - to go on leave.

The administration has guaranteed that removed CBI Director Alok Verma was not collaborating with the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and protected its choice to send him on leave, saying that an "additional standard and extraordinary" circumstance had emerged because of "grave claims of corruption" against senior functionaries of the agency.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has justfied the government action of sending both the officers on leave, saying it depends on the CVC's suggestions and attested that it is significant to reestablish the office's institutional honesty and validity.
