Indore, Oct 29 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday said Congress president Rahul Gandhi is displaying "fancy dress Hinduism" to fool people and demanded activity against his gathering associate Shashi Tharoor for his "scorpion" comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The saffron party's attack on Gandhi came in the backdrop of his incessant visits to sanctuaries - the most recent being a trek to Ujjain's Mahakaleshwar temple Monday, in front of his voyage through the politically huge Malwa-Nimar area in survey bound Madhya Pradesh.

The ruling party asked that Gandhi expel Tharoor from the Congress for his controversial remarks against Modi.

The Congress MP from Kerala stoked a crisp controversy Sunday, asserting that an anonymous Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pioneer had contrasted the PM with "a scorpion sitting on a Shivling" and named it as an exceptionally striking analogy.

"The objectionable statement of Tharoor, who is very close to Rahul Gandhi, has disrespected not only the sacred divinity of Lord Mahadev, adored by crores of Hindus, but also Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

"In such a situation, by what method will he (Gandhi) offer supplications at the Mahakal temple," BJP national representative Sambit Patra told reporters here.

Athat Congress leaders were consistently affronting the Hindus by putting forth offensive expressions, Patra demanded that Gandhi apologize for Tharoor's comments and remove the 62-year-old UN representative diverted government official from the party .

He claimed that after the humiliating defeat in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, a board of trustees headed by previous Union minister A K Antony had said the Congress should deal with the Hindus for its political restoration as it was losing ground due to its anticipated picture of a "party of Muslims".

"After the Antony committee's report, Rahul Gandhi is displaying extravagant dress Hinduism consistently. To deceive the Hindus, he is donning a "janeu" (terrified string) over the shirt. We request that 'janeudhari' Rahul Gandhi elucidate to which 'gotra' (faction) does he have a place with," Patra said.

He also said since Gandhi had not given any response to this inquiry, individuals were considering him a "Vatican gotra ka Brahmin".

The Congress chief's mom, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government Sonia Gandhi, is an Italian by birth.
