National Anthem not obligatory in cinema halls any longer

New Delhi, Jan 9 The Supreme Court on Tuesday, in a historic point choice, upset its prior request and articulated that the National Anthem isn't obligatory in the cinema halls any longer.

The request was passed by a three-judge seat headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra and comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud amid the hearing of a petition seeking provision of punishment on disobeying the National Anthem.

Amid the contentions and entries from different gatherings including the candidate, respondent and the Central Government, the pinnacle court acknowledged the recommendation of a best law officer speaking to the Center, KK Venugopal, and said the screening of the National Anthem in cinema halls would, hereafter, be discretionary.

On Monday, the Centre asked the top court survey its 2016 request that made it obligatory to play the National Anthem in cinema halls.
