Khattar government bans release of "Padmaavat" in Haryana

Chandigarh, Jan 16 The Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana has banned the arrival of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's disputable film 'Padmaavat' in the state, Health Minister Anil Vij said today.

"Film Padmavati/Padmavat banned in Haryana," the senior priest tweeted.

The film had confronted hardened resistance from different quarters in Haryana.

Vij had before said that he would not permit screening of the motion picture in the state. He had charged that Bhansali had wrongly displayed verifiable certainties in the motion picture to "slander" the picture of 'Rani Padmavati' and this had harmed the assumptions of lakhs of people.

"Rani Padmavati is the image of Indian ladies' pride. The character death of Padmavati won't go on without serious consequences at any level," he had said.

The film, buried in discussion over its plot line, had been given an approval by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which has requested that the producers change the title from 'Padmavati' to 'Padmaavat' and proposed some different alterations.

The film is set for release on January 25.
