New Delhi, Jan 18 The legislature has made it compulsory to have Global Positioning System (GPS) devices in passenger transport vehicles including taxicabs and buses from April 1.
The road transport ministry has repeated the due date in the midst of reports that a large portion of the states had not done much to meet the objective.
"From first April, 2018, the traveler transport vehicles including taxicabs and transports are to be compulsorily furnished with GPS gadgets," tweeted Ministry of Road Transport and Highways India.
All cabs, buses and public transport vehicles, with the exception of three-wheeler and e-rickshaws, will have to install GPS and an alert button.
These devices will be set by the maker, merchant or the operators.
