SP, TRS for concurrent decisions, DMK contradicts

New Delhi, July 8 Akhilesh Yadav-drove Samajwadi Party (SP) and K. Chandrashekar Rao's Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) have supported the Law Commission of India's proposition to hold simultaneous Lok Sabha and state assembly elections.

However, DMK working president MK Stalin has denied loaning his support to the thought.

Kickstarted on Saturday, the Law Commission of India is holding a two-day meeting with leading political parties to examine the possibilities of holding simultaneous elections in the country.

"Samajwadi Party is supportive of simultaneous elections, however they should start from 2019. On the off chance that open delegates switch sides or enjoy horse exchanging, move ought to be made against them by the L-G inside seven days," SP pioneer Ram Gopal Yadav said.

Chandrashekar Rao has also shown "strongly" support to the same.

In a letter to the Law Commission of India, Rao stated: "TRS is unequivocally for holding concurrent races to the Lok Sabha and the State Legislative Assemblies."

However, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam doesn't share similar sentiments.

The working President of the gathering in his letter to the commission stated: "DMK are of the firm sentiment that the proposed call for concurrent races to Lok Sabha and State Legislatures conflicts with the fundamental precepts of our Constitution."

In April, the Law Commission had stated that simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies could be held in two stages from 2019, gave that no less than two arrangements of the Constitution are changed and sanctioned by a greater part of the states.

National Democratic Alliance constituent Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) are also in favour simultaneous polls.

In-power Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also given strong support to the Law Commission of India over its proposed thought.

However, DMK isn't the only party which has opposed the thought. Trinamool Congress, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM), All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and Goa Forward Party have additionally also reportedly opposed the proposal.
