Tent collapses during PM Modi's Midnapore rally, 20 injured

Midnapore (WB), Jul 16 A makeshift tent fallen during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally in West Bengal's Midnapore area today, injuring at least 20 people, a police official said.

The tent, authorities stated, was erected next to the main entrance of the rally scene to protect people from the rain.

Many enthusiastic BJP supporters were seen crowding inside the tent during the rally. The prime minister could be heard requesting that they be careful, authorities said.

As per authorities, the prime minister saw the tent falling while he was in the middle of his speech. He immediately instructed SPG staff standing next to him to take care of the people and attend of the injured.

The local BJP unit as well as Modi's personal staff, including his doctor and SPG faculty, swung without hesitation to help the injured, authorities said.

Most of the injured have been admitted to hospital, an authority stated, including that the number could rise.

After addressing the rally, the PM went to the hospital to visit the injured.
