Kansas incident: Sushma Swaraj offers condolences, guarantees help

New Delhi, July 8 External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj on Sunday offered condolences to the bereaved family of the 26-year-old Indian-origin student who was killed in Kansas City, United States.

Swaraj guaranteed that the Kansas incident will be followed up with the police, including that all the assistance will be given to the family.

"Kansas incident- My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. We will line this up with the Police and give all help to the family," she tweeted.

For those unversed, a 26-year-old student from Telangana was killed after obscure people opened fire at an eatery in Kansas City.

The deceased, identified as Sharath Koppu, was learning at the University of Missouri-Kansas City or UMKC.

Although Sharath was immediately shifted to a hospital in the vicinity, his cousin said the victim succumbed to his injuries.

"My cousin (Sharath Koppu) moved to the USA in January this year, after he got full grant to learn at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The previous evening, we became acquainted with that he was severely killed by shots fired by unknown people around 8 pm (USA time). This is an exceptionally pitiful day for every one of us," said the casualty's cousin, Sandeep Vemulakonda.

Sandeep urged External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to investigate the issue and catch the guilty party.

He also asked for the Indian Embassy in the USA to send Sharath's body to Hyderabad for the last rites.
