Prime Minister Modi gifts 200 cows to Rwanda village

Rweru Model Village (Rwanda), July 24 In his lady visit to Rwanda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday gifted 200 cows to villagers as a part of Rwandan Government's Girinka Program.

The capacity, to stamp the handing over of cows was held at Rweru Model village, in the presence of Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

Under this program, the poorest residing in the district get cows from the government and gift the first female calf to a neighbour to promote brotherhood.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister valued the Girinka program and President Paul Kagame's drive in such manner.

Prime Minister Modi also included that the Girinka program will help change towns in Rwanda.

The Girinka program was started by President Paul Kagame in light of the alarmingly high rate of youth lack of healthy sustenance and as an approach to quicken destitution diminishment and integrate livestock and crop farming.

The program depends on the start that giving a dairy bovine to poor Girinka program changes jobs, accommodates networks enhancing horticultural efficiency using excrement as composts.

Since its introduction in 2006, hundreds of thousands have received cows through the Girinka program. By June 2016, a sum of 248,566 bovines had been distributed to poor households.

The program has contributed to an increase in agricultural production in Rwanda - especially milk production and products, lessened hunger and expanded salaries.

After concluding his visit to Rwanda today, Prime Minister Modi will leave for Uganda on a two-day visit. This will check the principal visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the nation in more than two decades.

In the last leg of his three-country Africa visit, the Prime Minister will visit South Africa to go to the tenth version of the BRICS Summit which is booked to happen Johannesburg.
