Prime Minister Modi leaves for 5-day Africa visit

New Delhi, July 23 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday left for a five-day, three-country visit to Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa.

Prime Minister Modi will achieve Rwanda today, denoting the principal ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister.

Upon reaching Rwanda at around 6 p.m., the Prime Minister will get a ceremonial reception.

The Prime Minister will then head for a one-on-one meeting and delegation level talks with the President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame. Prime Minister Modi will also interact with the Indian community.

Later, at around 8 p.m., there will be a exchange of agreements followed by dinner, hosted by the Rwandan President and reception, facilitated by the High Commissioner for Indian Community.

Prime Minister Modi will then continue to Uganda, where he will embrace commitment from July 24 to 25. The visit will check the main visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the nation in more than 20 years.

During the two-day visit in Uganda, Prime Minister Modi will approach Uganda President Yoweri Museveni and hold designation level talks.

The Prime Minister is also booked to address Uganda's Parliament and the Indian diaspora.

Two lines of credit will also be announced for Uganda amid Prime Minister's visit, the MEA said.

Lastly, the Prime Minister will go to South Africa, the final leg of his visit, to go to the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) summit.

The Prime Minister is also booked to meet South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

A number of agreements and MoUs in the territories of protection, exchange, culture, agriculture and dairy cooperation are planned to be signed during the Prime Minister's visit, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
