American tennis star Venus Williams achieves first Indian Wells semis since 2001

California, March 16 American tennis star Venus Williams established her position in the semi-finals of the Indian Wells Masters, after subsequent to recording a straight-sets triumph over Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain here on Friday.

The 37-year-old required just over an hour to secure an agreeable 6-3, 6-2 prevail upon Navarro in an uneven quarter-last conflict of the ladies' singles occasion.

Blissful with her triumph, Venis said that she was fulfilled to play somewhere down in such huge competition and win a triumph with tremendous edge.

"I'm definitely happy. You sort of seek after this kind of scoreline, however you never know in case you're really going to get it. I was content with way I played.Playing somewhere down in a big tournament is exciting, incredible," the WTA cited Venus, as saying.

With the win, the former world number one has made it to her first semi-final of the Indian Wells in most recent 17 years.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion last achieved the last four at Indian Wells in 2001, when she withdrew from the tournament because of tendonitis and dealt with sister Serena a walkover into the finals.

Venus will now lock horns with Daria Kasatkina of Russia for a place in the summit confrontation of the ladies' singles occasion.
