Sonia Gandhi corners Center, says 'India embracing regressive vision'

New Delhi, Mar 9 Launching a blistering assault on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-drove Central Government, previous Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday accused the ruling dispensation of suppressing the voice of the Opposition.

Talking at the India Today Conclave 2018, Sonia asked that whether India was extremely a "giant black hole before May 26, 2014?" as asserted by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and included that such claims are "an affront to the knowledge of our kin."

Blaming the BJP-drove Center of 'suppressing' their voice in the Parliament, she stated, "Our freedom is under assault. Today we are embracing a regressive vision. Parliament is a forum for the trading of views. In the event that you are not permitted to talk, at that point what is the point?"

Sonia additionally featured the 'growing intolerance in the nation and said that the "voice of the people is being silenced and religious pressures are being fuelled with only one agenda to win the election."

Further criticising the NDA government, the Congress leader said that the 'judiciary is in turmoil' and the Right to Information Act, which was conveyed to bring transparency, has been put in cold storage.

"Dread and intimidation are order of the day; interchange voices are being quieted, religious strains are being fuelled, vigilante armed forces are being let free with state support, society is being energized with a view to winning election ," she said.

Sonia also blamed the BJP for persuading people that Congress was a Muslim party. "BJP has managed to persuade people that Congress is a Muslim party. We have always been to temples. When I went with Rajiv Gandhi, wherever we used to go, there was always a major temple that we used to visit. But we never made a show of it," she included.

Discussing the execution of the party in 2014 general elections, Sonia asserted that the Congress was 'out-advertised' and they truly need to build up a new style of associating with people.

"We need to look how we project our programs and policies. Rahul insists on having younger and newer talent for the party to grow, however not at the cost of seniors," she said.

Expressing confidence in returning to control, she stated, "We' re (the Congress) going to return, we're not going to let them (the BJP) return."
