On Board, Apr 22 Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the ordinance to amend the current Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) and said it is a memorable choice.
"This is a historic decision by the bureau, such a law is expected to rebuff people who carry out such terrible wrongdoings," he told.
He further said that the decision was invited unanimously.
In the wake of an expansion in occurrences of assault of minors, the Union Cabinet on Saturday affirmed the revision in POCSO Act, putting a stamp on granting capital punishment to the rapists of children below 12 years of age.
The ordinance looks for death penalty for the attackers of girls below 12 years old and stringent punishment for perpetrators of assault especially of girls blow 16 years.
