ONGC players contribute 15 medals to India's Asian Games count

New Delhi, Sep 4 Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) sportspersons have shown an outstanding performance by bagging 15 awards, including 3 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze, at the recently concluded 18th edition of the Asian Games.

This is the largest contribution by any corporate to the general Indian medal tally of 69 at Asiad 2018 and furthermore the highest number of medals won by ONGC in the Asian Games edition, since 2006.

Reflecting the same, ONGC CMD Shashi Shanker said "Games is an essential marker of a country's development and advancement. ONGC, as a mindful corporate national has dependably been conferred towards the advancement of games. It is delighting to see the devotion of our sportspersons who have conquered all difficulties to prevail at the worldwide level and ONGC is pleased to be a part of this success story."

ONGC's Apurvi Chandela opened India's count, with a Bronze in 10 m Air Rifle. She was trailed by Ankita Raina, India's Number one seed, who anchored Bronze in Women Singles Tennis to wind up India's second woman player to acquire a medal.

15-year-old Shardul Vihan set up a marvelous execution to secure Silver in the Men's Double Trap event, while pro shooter Heena Sidhu anchored Bronze in 10 m air pistol.

World Track Champion and ONGC's scholarship athlete Hima Das anchored Silver in Women's 400m. She also secured Silver in 4X400m Mixed Relay and Gold in 4X400m Women Relay alongside MR Poovamma.

Dharun Ayyasamy packed away 2 Silver decorations in Men's 400m obstacles and Men's 4X400 Relay. In toxophilism, ONGC's grant stars, Jyothi Surekha and Rajat Chauhan, secured Silver in Women's Compound Team and Men's Compound Team events respectively.

In table tennis, ONGC trio of An Amalraj, G Sathiyan, and Harmeet Desai won Bronze and scripted history with the first ever medal for India in the game at the Asiad. Arpinder Singh secured India's first Gold in Triple Jump following a range of 48 years, while 21-year-old ONGC grant heptathlete Swapna Burman packed away Gold after a gruelling 7 events at the Asiad.

Mandeep Singh, who is a piece of the Indian Hockey Team, gathered together ONGC's heist with a Bronze in Men's Hockey.

India's total medal tally at the esteemed quadrennial tournament stood at 69-fifteen gold, 24 silver, and 30 bronze.
