China impose trade tariffs on US to USD 3 billion

Beijing, Apr 2 China on Monday impose trade tariffs on the United States adding up to USD 3 billion in retaliation to the latter's decision of imposing similar trade tariffs on Chinese merchandise a month ago.

According to China's Finance Ministry, it suspended tariff concessions on 128 American items, including aluminum, fruit, and pork, Xinhua detailed.

"The Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council has chosen to force a tax of 15 percent on 120 things of items imported from the United States including foods grown from the ground items, and a duty of 25 percent on eight things of imports including pork and related items from the nation," as per an announcement posted on the Chinese finance ministry's website.

The statement espoused that Beijing had taken a "countermeasure", in light of Washington D.C's. prior move to force taxes on aluminum and steel imports.

On March 23, US President Donald Trump imposed massive trade tariffs amounting to USD 60 billion on China, with an end goal to prevent the last from taking "protected innovation" from American organizations.

The US had passed an order a month ago imposing 25 percent tariffs imposed upon steel and aluminum imports on China. The new request would see a 25 percent tariff on imports of steel and a 10 percent tariff on aluminum.

"Despite the fact that disregarding WTO (World Trade Organization) governs, the US measure became effective on March 23, which has seriously undermined China's interests," as per the back service's announcement.

"China backers and backings a multilateral trade system," it included, underlining that to suspend tariff concessions on US goods, it was a move to protect Beijing's interests using WTO rules.
