President Kovind, PM Modi extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of Janmashtami

New Delhi, Sep 3 President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of Janmashtami.

Taking to his twitter handle, President Kovind spoke to nationals to take after the way of uprightness and exemplary nature in thought, word, and deed.

"Greetings and good wishes to fellow citizens on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami. The lessons of Lord Krishna have a general message - Nishkam Karma. May this celebration rouse us to take after the way of ethicalness and honesty in thought, word and deed," the President tweeted.

The Prime Minister tweeted "Janmashtami greetings to everybody."

Janmashtami is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna. As per the Hindu schedule, Lord Krishna, aan avatar of Lord Vishnu, was born on the eighth day of the long stretch of Bhadra. The day for the most part falls in the long stretches of August or September according to the Western calendar.

The festival is commended by offering supplications to Lord Krishna, with flawlessly finished swings, move and music performances and Dahi Handi competition.

In Mathura, which is thought to be the origin or 'Janmabhoomi' of Lord Krishna, lovers thronged sanctuaries in vast numbers to offer petitions on the propitious event.
