Shivraj Singh Chouhan: MSP hike commendable

Bhopal, Jul 5 Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday respected the central government's choice of hiking the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Kharif crops.

Chouhan told, I would like to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The decision to build MSP for Kharif edit is memorable. This is the biggest decision for the upliftment of ranchers in free India. Giving a 50 percent expansion in the generation of Kharif crops is an awesome choice."

He included that the decision will fulfill Prime Minister Modi's guarantee of doubling farmers' salary by 2022.

Earlier on Wednesday, so as to support the pay of the farmers, the Union Cabinet affirmed the MSP for 14 Kharif crops for the year 2018-19.

The meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi approved the proposal made by Union Minister Arun Jaitley in the Budget 2018 of hiking the support cost by one-and-a-half times of the production cost for Kharif crops.

MSP is referred to a price at which the government buys crops from the farmers.

The MSP for paddy has been increased by around Rs 200 for each quintal, jowar (crossover) by Rs 730 for every quintal and ragi by Rs 997 for each quintal.

The MSP of paddy (regular review) has been expanded by Rs 200 to Rs 1,750 for every quintal, while that of Grade An assortment by Rs 160 for each quintal to Rs 1,750.

The MSP of medium staple cotton has been expanded to Rs 5,150 from Rs 4,020 prior, and that of long staple cotton to Rs 5,450 from Rs 4,320 for each quintal.

In pulses, MSP of tur dal has been raised to Rs 5,675 for each quintal from Rs 5,450, while that of moong dal to Rs 6,975 for every quintal from Rs 5,575.

In his 2018 Budget speech, Jaitley had announced that Niti Aayog in discussion with focal and state governments will set up a component to guarantee ranchers get advantages of the base help cost.

Since 2007-08, the MSP has gone up from Rs 745 to Rs 1550 for each quintal.

In 2008-09, the MSP was expanded from Rs 745 for each quintal in the past financial year (FY) to Rs 900 for every quintal (an expansion of Rs 155 for each quintal). Rs 100 for every quintal on MSP was also raised by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in FY 2009-10.
