Kerala Floods: Rahul Gandhi urges Centre to loan more help

Kochi, Aug 29 Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday asked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-drove central government to disburse sufficient funds for flood ravaged Kerala to expedite the restoration work.

Gandhi said that he is unhappy over the measure of assets allotted to the state.

While addressing to the media, the Gandhi scion stated, "I would have loved if the Central Government would have stretched out more help to the general population of Kerala. I think getting more guide is their (Kerala surge casualties) right and I am pitiful that the legislature has not given as much as they ought to have given."

The Congress president who visited the victims housed in various relief camps on Tuesday also urged the state government to speed up the process of releasing compensation of Rs 10,000 to each victim.

"I have visited a large number of camps yesterday, people are worried. I spoke to Kerela Chief Minister as well. It is important that the government gives a sense to the people that they are going to help rebuild the houses. Compensation promised should be delivered quickly," he said.

Rahul also assured the people of Kerala that his party will work day and night to reconstruct their homes which got annihilated because of overwhelming deluge in the state.

"I guarantee that Congress party is working for them (victims) and I have clearly instructed the party workers that they should help in the development procedure. Since we are not in control we have a specific confinements but rather whatever we can, we will do."

The worst deluge of the century has killed at least 357 people in Kerala, and rendered over 3,00,000 homeless.
