Union Cabinet approves bill to overturn Supreme Court order on SC/ST Act

New Delhi, Aug 1 Ahead of an across the country bandh called by the Dalit groups, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday consented to table the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) charge amid the continuous rainstorm session of the Parliament to reestablish the original provisions of the Act, sources told.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the midst of the due date settled by Dalit associations and LJP (Lok Janshakti Party) to upset the decision of the Supreme Court in the issue.

The LJP, which is a partner of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) additionally debilitated to join 'Bharat Bandh' challenge of August 9 called by the Dalit outfits against the decision of the top court.

Objections were also raised on the arrangement of previous Supreme Court judge Justice A.K. Goel as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) administrator.

Goel is one of the judges under which the judgement of weakening arrangements of the SC/ST Act was passed.

The Supreme Court in a March 20 administering had banished prompt captures in cases enrolled under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.

The SC/ST Act ensures the minimized networks against separation and abominations.

The decision was generally censured by the Dalit associations and the Opposition who asserted that the weakening of the Act will prompt more separation and wrongdoing against the retrogressive network.

On April 2, Dalit associations the nation over organized a gigantic dissent against the judgment of the best court.

Later, the Centre filed a review petition against the decision, which went futile as the best court declined to remain its request and requested that all parties to submit detailed replies.
