BJP: Supreme Court judgement on Delhi Power Tussle, not a triumph

New Delhi, July 4 Reacting to the Supreme Court judgement in Delhi Government-LG control tussle case, Bharatiya Janata Party representative Nalin Kohli said that there is no purpose behind the Delhi Government calling it a triumph, as their interest for statehood to Delhi has been dismissed by the top court.

"I don't understand how Delhi Government is guaranteeing this to be a triumph? Their principle board was this is a state though Court has unequivocally said it is anything but a state. They said they had the selective official control that was dismissed as well. This is an UT (Union Territory), Center has a part to play," Nalin Kohli said.

The Supreme Court, in its judgment, said that the Lieutenant Governor must work amicably with the state yet in addition included that Delhi can't be conceded statehood, referring to a prior judgment.

Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, who headed the five-judge seat containing A.K. Sikri, A.M. Khanwilkar, D.Y. Chandrachud and Ashok Bhushan stated, "LG can't act freely except if where the Constitution permits. LG can't be an obstructionist."

"L-G can't act autonomously except if where the Constitution permits. L-G can't be an obstructionist, he should accept guidance from the Council of Ministers. The Council needs to educate the L-G of its choices. The L-G must work agreeably with the express, the L-G and chamber of priests must be continually adjusted. There is no space for insurgency," the CJI said.

The power tussle between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor has been on since the development of the AAP government in the state.

As of late, Kejriwal, alongside Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and others, sat on a nine-day sit-in strike against Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal at the last's office-cum- residence.
