Amit Shah: Supreme Court decision on triple talaq historic, start of new age for ladies

New Delhi, Aug 22 BJP president Amit Shah today described the Supreme Court decision on triple talaq as memorable and said it had given the privilege to crores of Muslim ladies in the nation to live with equality
and pride.

He likewise hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking a stand on the issue before the apex court.

"We respect the decision. The Supreme Court has given a memorable decision. This decision has given the privilege to crores of ladies to live with correspondence and nobility," Shah told reporters.

He portrayed the judgment as the "start of another age for ladies to live with confidence".

The Supreme Court by a majority verdict set aside the practice of divorce through triple talaq among Muslims, saying the practice was void, illicit and illegal.

It held that triple talaq was against the basic tenets of Quran.
