Dr Kafeel Khan made substitute, says doctors at AIIMS: Gorakhpur disaster

New Delhi, Aug 14 Resident doctors of the AIIMS today censured the sacking of Dr Kafeel Khan of Gorakhpur-based BRD Medical College Hospital, alleging that he had been made a "scapegoat" in the terrible occurrence in which 30 kids had k died within a span of 48 hours.

Khan, who was the nodal officer at the state-run hospital's pediatric division, had been hailed as a hero after he reportedly bought oxygen cylinders with his own particular cash amid the emergency.

"With great pain we need to state that once again a doctor has been made a substitute for the infrastructural slip by and disappointment of the administration," President of the occupant specialists relationship at AIIMS, Dr Harjit Singh Bhatti, said.

The affiliation has written a letter censuring Khan's sacking and has additionally blamed the Uttar Pradesh government for "net disregard of public health."

"If oxygen, gloves, surgical instruments and basic medicines are not available in the hospital, then who is responsible? According to the government, the doctor is responsible.

"I ask for government officials not to ruin this connection between the patient and the specialist to conceal their ineptitude," Bhatti said in the letter.

More than 60 kids have allegedly died at the BRD Medical College Hospital since August 7 and no less than 30 youngsters were accounted for dead till yesterday.

Many of the victims were infants admitted at the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit.
