New Delhi, Aug 8 The legislature has gotten no proposal to declare the cow as national animal, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

"No such proposal or request has been gotten in the Ministry of Home Affairs," Minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju said in a written reply.

He was answering to an question on whether the legislature has gotten any proposal or there has been a demand in different parts of the nation to announce the cow as national animal.

Be that as it may, Rijiju stated, under the dispersion of authoritative powers between the Union of India and States under Article 246(3) of the Constitution, the conservation of cows is an issue on which the lawmaking body of the state has exclusive powers to legislate.
